The Music Program at the King Open School is aligned with the City of Cambridge's mission to promote social justice. Our musical celebrations are based on honoring the wonderful ethnic makeup of our amazingly diverse population. Our music curriculum is Kodaly based and promotes singing solo and in various size groups. Many performances support the general education's social studies curriculum. The music room has instruments from: Trinidad Steel Pans, African drums, Brasillian percussion, melodicas, recorders, tone bells, and guitars. Everyone plays an instrument of some sort. We also love to dance! For our 5th graders the traditional band and orchestra instruments are provided.

We often go out into the community to perform for events such as the Central Square post office, an event at MIT, or to perform for the senior citizens holiday party. If you stop by any morning you will hear various age groups of singers and instrumentalists serenading the school during morning announcements.
