Building Update

Building Update
Posted on 10/16/2015
As we settle into the routines of the school year, I want to update you on the planning process for relocating our school in order to begin construction on a new King Open/CSUS school building and campus.

As you know, our school was originally scheduled to relocate prior to the start of this school year. Unfortunately, our temporary location is still occupied by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School, due to a fire at the building that they were scheduled to move into. Until the King School vacates their temporary location, 359 Broadway, we must remain in place at our current location.

Construction and fire recovery will be completed in December, which will allow the Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr. School to relocate at that time. After they relocate, the school building located at 359 Broadway will be updated and reconfigured to meet the needs of our school. I am pleased to let you know that the district has arranged to relocate the Science Department from the Broadway building, which will help to alleviate space concerns.

The moving company will begin moving crates into the new building starting Friday, February 5th and continuing Saturday. Students will remain at 850 Cambridge Street for a combination of regular classroom learning and extra enrichment activities.

A rotation schedule will allow teachers to move between classroom setup at 359 Broadway and teaching regular lessons at 850 Cambridge Street. When teachers are working on classroom set-up, students will participate in classes with classroom teachers, specialists and engage in special activities. The First day of school in our temporary location will be Monday, February 22nd.

The details of the transition week are being developed collaboratively with the staff. Please watch for further information.

The next Community Meeting for the KO/CSUS Building Project will take place on Thursday, October 22nd from 6 - 7:30PM in the school auditorium. Please plan on attending.
