King Open and Cambridge Street Upper School & Community Complex Project Construction Update
Posted on 02/26/2015

Story MapAt the end of this June 2015, Cambridge Street Upper School and King Open School will close in their current locations, and will be relocated over the summer to temporary locations.

  • King Open School: When students return to school in September 2015, King Open School will housed within the "Longfellow Building," which is located at 359 Broadway, across from the Traffic & Parking Department. This red brick schoolhouse was modified to accommodate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School during construction of a new school building at 100 Putnam Avenue. The Longfellow building will undergo additional modifications to meet the particular needs of King Open School.

  • Cambridge Street Upper School: In September 2015, students entering grades 6-8 will start their school year in a new location inside the Kennedy-Longfellow School, at 158 Spring Street in East Cambridge. For the past three years, this building has housed Putnam Avenue Upper School. The upper floors of this building were modified to accommodate the Upper School program as part of the Innovation Agenda, and the facility will undergo additional modifications to prepare for CSUS's specific needs.

Construction of 850 Cambridge Street is expected to take four years. View these changes on a map >>
