This was our first event of the year!

Families came to the potluck breakfast to get to know each other, meet their child’s classmates, and spend some time in the classroom. Teachers conducted a Morning Meeting to show a little bit of the routine and kids performed a short singing performance they had learned in the classroom. Morning Meeting is critical as it is the anchor of the school day. It is guided by our Responsive Classroom approach to teaching at KO. During this 20-25 minutes, it is our intention to begin to meet three basic human needs: a sense of significance, a sense of belonging, and a sense of fun. The presentation of songs also gives children a sense of pride in their work and an opportunity for families to see their progress.

The final portion of the event was dedicated to parents/caregivers only. While children and assistants went to recess, teachers talked about the highlights of the Kindergarten curriculum, and answered any questions families had about our King Open Kindergarten Program.
